Florida Man Steals Golf Cart, Leads Deputies on Low-Speed Chase

A Florida man is behind bars after he stole a golf cart and led police on a low-speed chase that ended when he drove into a ditch. Sanford resident Andrew Burnett, 42, has been charged with robbery, fleeing and eluding, battery and criminal mischief in connection with the incident, which occurred Monday in St. Johns County, the sheriff's department says. After receiving a report of a stolen golf cart, a deputy saw Burnett driving it through an intersection, according to an arrest report. Although the deputy attempted to stop the cart, Burnett ignored the flashing lights and continued driving as the deputy followed. The suspect eventually tried to ditch the deputy by veering into oncoming traffic, but he lost control of the slow-moving cart and ended up driving it into a ditch, the report indicates. After leading the deputy on a foot chase, Burnett was finally apprehended in a nearby apartment complex, police say. He's being held on an $8,000 bond. Do you suspect alcohol or drugs might have been a factor in this case?
