Michigan Town Bans Clown Costumes From Halloween Event

The town of Oak Park, Michigan has let residents know that clown costumes are not allowed at the annual Boo Bash Halloween event. The reason behind the decision is that “clown costumes are considered too scary for children and have been banned in light of creepy clown sightings over the past couple of years,” said Recreation Director Laurie Stasiak.

“This event is centered around young children. In the past few years many clown costumes have been given a very scary and evil look. Many scary and horror movies are centered around these types of characters.”

The event is expected to draw thousands of guests and last year saw 5,000 attendees.

Update: After hearing from parents after the announcement, officials are "encouraging parents to use their best judgment" when it comes to clown costumes.
