Garth Brooks would “send a plane” to get Super Bowl champ Travis Kelce to the grand opening of his bar on historic Lower Broadway in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
Kelce caught Brooks’ attention when he covered “Friends in Low Places” — Brooks’ iconic 90s hit that inspired the name of his bar — during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade last week. During the latest episode of his Inside Studio G, Brooks addressed that rendition.
“Did you guys see Travis Kelce’s version of ‘Friends in Low Places?’ Did you see him sing this? I loved it, I thought it was fantastic. It blew me away because I’m sitting there watching it as it’s going down, right? I never expected that,” Brooks said. He then delivered a message to the Kansas City Chiefs star: “Big man, I’m just telling you this. I will be at (the Friends In Low Places) grand opening if you’re there. I’ll send a plane if you want and come and get another shot at the title. If you want to come sing that, I’ll send a plane. You can come by yourself or bring your brother or your gang, whatever you want to do. The plane holds 11, just remember that. So, yes, I’ll be happy to send this invite out to you if you want to try a little ‘Friends in Low Places’ in Friends in Low Places.”
Brooks apparently was not planning to attend the grand opening of Friends In Low Places, but said his plans would change if Kelce took him up on that offer. Brooks announced the grand opening date on Tuesday (February 20), months after he celebrated the soft opening with a dive bar performance in November. The full venue will be open seven days a week beginning on March 7. Friends In Low Places — which will also offer menu items inspired by Trisha Yearwood’s cook books and Trisha’s Southern Kitchen — will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Brooks announced on Tuesday.
“We feel very lucky to have the chance to be part of Lower Broad, which is arguably THE hottest spot in the country,” Brooks previously said in a news release announcing his bar. “The goal is a classic honky-tonk that welcomes all and encourages love and kindness while playing the greatest music in the world in the home of country music.”
