Finding a great place to live is never easy, and even if you can afford housing, it isn’t always in the best location. But how do you know if where you’re planning to move is a good option? Well, there’s no doubt safety is pretty important for most people when choosing a place to put down roots, and a new report reveals the best places for that in the U.S.

NeighborhoodScout has just come out with their annual list of the 100 safest cities in America, looking at cities with 25,000 or more people nationwide, and judging them on the number of crimes reported and the population of each city.

Topping the list this year is Ridgefield, Connecticut, which is number one because of its low crime rate, plus its many appealing characteristics like top public schools, close proximity to financial and business hubs like New York, Stamford and Danbury, and high rate of owner-occupied single homes.

Overall, Massachusetts is the state with the most cities on the list with 19, followed by Illinois with 18 and California with 10.
