BASEBALL FAN FINALLY LIVING HIS DREAM

23-year-old pitcher Nathan Patterson made his pro debut for the Oakland A's rookie league team and struck out all three batters he faced. It was a great debut, but the story of how he got there is even more impressive.

Patterson was a pitcher in high school but never pursued baseball in college. Then about a year ago, he started thinking about it again and training.

Last month, he visited the fan area at a Colorado Rockies game and, for fun, threw some pitches at a speed-pitch radar booth. He lit up the radar and was clocked at 96 miles an hour. The fans around him took notice, and so did the Oakland A's who signed him to a rookie contract.

That’s how Nathan got into his first game with the A's Arizona League rookie team and fanned all three batters he faced.

He wrote about it on Instagram saying, "I wake up everyday excited to get better and push myself beyond my own expectations. It’s amazing what can happen when you set a goal, take it one day at a time, knock down any barriers, and look back after a few months or years to see what you have accomplished." (USA Today)
